Does Home Insurance Cover Flood?

By February 22, 2022February 21st, 2023Insurance

Insurance can be frustrating. You file a claim only to find out that your policy doesn’t cover it. What have you been paying for?!

Here are three common policy exclusions that you may not have realized leaves your home uninsured:

  1. Service Lines
A standard homeowner’s policy will not cover a service line (i.e. irrigation pipes) that is damaged. If the roots of that beautiful tree in your yard damages an underground service line, you may be surprised to find out that your homeowner’s policy won’t cover the cost to repair or replace it.
  2. Water Damage
If caused by natural flooding, sewer/sump pump backups, or water seepage is commonly not covered in your standard homeowner’s policy. That sump tank or well? Not included as well.
  3. Maintenance Issues
Damage related to maintaining your home, and normal wear & tear is typically not covered by your policy. When that old water heater you’ve been meaning to repair finally goes out you are going to be left with the bill to for a new one.
